The Town of North Greenbush is located in Rensselaer County, New York and has a total population of 13,929 (2020 Census). Located in the northwest part of the County, the town borders the City of Troy and the City of Rensselaer. The western town line is marked by the Hudson River with Albany County, New York on the opposite shore. The eastern town line borders the Towns of Poestenkill and Sand Lake. Interstate 90 passes through the southwest corner of the town. 

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Town has a total area of 18.91 square miles (48.97 km²) with 18.55 square miles of land and 0.36 square miles of water. 

As of the 2020 Census, there were 4,161 households and 2,916 families residing in Town. The population density was 578 square miles (223.2/km²) and 4,336 housing units at an average density of 89.6/km² (232.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.81% White, 1.01% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 0.85% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. 

There were 4,161 households, out of which 30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present and 29.9% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.97. 

The town population is spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 5.8% from ages 18 to 24, 27.7% from ages 25 to 44, 25% from ages 45 to 64 and 18.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there were 89.7 males. For every 100 females who were age 18 and over, there were 86.9 males. 

The median income for a household in the town was $82,227 and the median income for a family was $62,845. Males had a median income of $40,872 versus $29,743 for females. The per capita income for the town was $24,025. About 3% of the population and 2% of families were below the poverty line, including 3% of those under the age of 18 and 2.5% of those 65 or over.
